About
At the foot of the Iezer-Păpușa Massif, in an area where nature shows its beauty differently in each season, the Râușor dam rises in the path of the waters. The construction is located on the Târgului River, 400 meters below the place where the Târgului River joins its waters with the Râușor stream and forms the reservoir of the same name.
The dam and the reservoir are part of the heritage and exploitation of the Argeș-Vedea Water Basin Administration (ABA) within the National Administration "Romanian Waters" (ANAR).
The construction of the hydrotechnical facility began in 1977, with 1986 marking its commissioning. It is a rockfill dam with filter areas made of sorted ballast and a clay core, slightly inclined upstream and horizontally curved with a height of 120 meters and an opening at the crown of 380 meters. The components of the Râușor hydrotechnical facility were calculated and verified at flows corresponding to class I of importance, being classified in category B – dam of special importance.
The total surface area of the reservoir is 190 hectares, and the volume is 60 million cubic meters of water. The reservoir has a length of 4.5 kilometers on the Târgului River and 2.8 kilometers on the Lereștiului River.
The main role of the facility is to supply water to the Câmpulung Muscel municipality (located 16 km downstream) and neighboring localities. Another important role is to protect against floods, being provided with a mitigation volume of 14.5 million cubic meters. The facility also has an energy role. Through a 5,676-meter gallery, the water from the Râușor dam supplies the Lerești Hydroelectric Power Plant.
The Râușor Dam is not only a technical construction, but also a hidden gem in the heart of the mountains. The surrounding landscape is spectacular. The coniferous forests and peaks of the Iezer Mountains, which are reflected in the emerald-green waters of the lake, attract numerous tourists who are passionate about nature and hiking. The dam and the reservoir complete the beauty of the tourist area, from here start mountain trails that lead to the Iezer Peak and the Bâtrâna Peak in the Iezer-Păpușa Mountains.
