About

The spectacular Transfăgărășan road (DN 7C) connects two historical provinces - Muntenia and Transylvania. The road passes by the Vidraru Dam and continues its meandering towards 2000 meters altitude, through the alpine gap, towards the heights of Făgăraș. From here, the road descends to Arpașu de Jos, in Sibiu County.
Transfăgărășan was built in the period March 1970 – September 1974 and represents the greatest work of its kind in our country. It is a road in the ramp, which is distinguished both by its stunning serpentines, by the height at which it is located and by the beautiful landscapes surrounding it. Between Capra and Bâlea Lake there is the largest tunnel in the country (887 meters), which crosses Paltinul Mountains.
Transfăgărășan was presented, at the 2009 filming made in Romania by the team of the "Top Gear" television show as the most spectacular road in the world.
