Household and Hemp-Processing Workshop from Lisa, Brașov County

     The house from Lisa was built at the end of the 19th century and is typical for the traditional households in Țara Oltului. The house reflects the way the inhabitants of this area carried out their daily activities, but also the ancient craft of linen and hemp processing.

     Built on a foundation of river stone, the house has walls made of plastered pine beams and is divided into a dwelling house, a hall and a pantry. The basic furniture is strictly functional. However, the tea towels, the icons painted by the famous Savu Moga and Matei Țâmforea, and the decorative ceramics generate colour and warmth. The hall, dominated by the open hearth oven, is a multi-purpose space, where lambs or newly farrowed piglets were sometimes brought.

     The stable is an important addition to the household. It used to store fodder, house transport and farm implements. Threshing was done here too. The two stables for the large cattle, the pig and poultry pens, the shed for storing firewood and seasonally used tools were also housed here.
