About

The fishery (cherhana) was brought in the museum in 1972 from Mahmudia, a fishing village on the Danube. The fishing complex combines centuries-old traditions and practices with a charming architecture and an unrivalled functionality.
The building is made of fir planks, has a reed roof, and is supported by oak pillars. The porch and the pontoon serve as a landing pier. In addition to the building itself, the fishery includes a glacier, a summer kitchen, a shade for boats and a temporary shelter for fishermen.
There are two distinctive rooms inside: an office, where documents and records were kept and, of course, the heart of the whole business - the cherhana itself. Here the fish was received and carefully processed by the master fishermen, whether it was cleaning, salting or extracting the precious roe. In one corner, tubs stood ready to receive the fresh fish, and the ice-crushing machine waited impatiently for its turn. Fishing rods and gear are testaments to the hard work and skill of the fishermen.
