About

The history of the mill from Poienii de Jos is linked to the river Crișul Pietros. Its old design places it in the gallery of hydraulic vertical wheel mills, which served the local communities in the 18th and early 19th century.
Acquired by the ASTRA Museum in 1974 and then carefully rebuilt over the next two years, the mill is sturdily built of solid oak beams, skilfully carved and carefully placed on a river stone foundation. The roof, made of pine shingles, underlines the simplicity of the construction.
The two rooms of the mill reveal an interesting story: the mill not only houses the milling plant but also the miller's house, who was employed by the Saxon community. The miller's room, with its open hearth and a chimney made of unglazed bricks, served as living quarters for an entire family. The child's cradle, the dowry chest and the crockery cupboard behind the door stand witness to that.
