About
Inspired by a deep appreciation for beauty, the people of Găleșoaia built their homes with care and elegance. Stone foundations supported sturdy oak walls, while porches adorned with carved pillars and fretworked bays added a touch of refinement. As times changed, newer homes rose with two storeys, tiled roofs, and spacious porches—symbols of prosperity and evolving taste.
Thanks to a generous donation from the Haret family, two traditional potters' houses were relocated to the museum grounds, preserving over a century of local history. One of these homes represents a wealthier family dwelling, with its interior carefully arranged to reflect the authenticity of traditional rural life.
The newly assembled building includes an enhanced potter’s kiln—larger and more efficient than the original found in the neighboring yard. The courtyard has also been reconstructed, complete with a hayloft and stables, now repurposed for museum use. One room serves as a curing pantry, where freshly made pottery is left to dry slowly over the course of a month. The other has been transformed into a small exhibition space, featuring photographs and a mineral display that tells the powerful story of a once-thriving community shaped—and later overshadowed—by mining.
