About

The household from Almaș recreates the image of a rural settlement in the Gurahonț Basin. The ensemble includes the dwelling house, the fruit storage shed (colna), the animal pen, the well, and an annex building that connects the cuptoriștea (summer kitchen), the tinda (entrance hall), and the găbănaș (food storage pantry).

The house consists of three main rooms: the large heated room, known as the “guest house” or “house facing the street,” intended for visitors and major holidays; the tinda, a transitional space that houses the oven with an open hearth; and the small heated room, or living quarters, located to the left of the entrance, which preserves the warm atmosphere of family life.

In front of the house stretches the târnaț or prispă, a wide, shady porch supported by wooden pillars. The porch beam (cosoroabă) is locally decorated with carved floral motifs. Nearby is the cuptoriștea, equipped with a boot shaped stove and simple furniture, used during the warm season for cooking and occasionally for living.

The spacious fruit colna housed vats, barrels, and the grape press, serving as the place where fruit processing and winemaking activities took place.
In the găbănaș, with its thick floor made of split oak planks, raised off the ground to protect supplies from rodents, cereals, dried fruits, and other staple foods were stored.
