About
This household reflects the way of life of communities in the Apuseni Mountains, where cattle rearing, forestry and coopering have been the main occupations for generations.
Built in the second half of the 19th century, the house has two levels, each consisting of a single room. The cooper’s workshop was located on the ground floor, while the upper level can be accessed via an arched porch set at the side of the building — a feature that not only provides access to the house, but also brings balance to the entire structure. The high stone foundation, spruce log walls hewn with an adze and four-sided thatched roof are all typical features of the area around the sources of the Arieș River.
The household comprises an archaic barn with a hexagonal design, which was once used for manually threshing grain, as well as a pigsty made of oak logs and covered with wooden shingles, topped with a four-sided roof.
The household was transferred to the museum in 1994.
