About

The household and workshop for making musical instruments tell the story of an ancient craft practised in an area with a rich tradition. The layout of the buildings and the preserved tools help visitors to understand the work of the craftsmen and the stages through which traditional musical instruments were made.

The house, complete with porch and veranda, is representative of mountain settlements in Bucovina. Designed for an environment dominated by coniferous forests, the interior contains the essential elements of everyday life. The hearth, stoves and built-in furniture reveal how the living space was organised and how daily life unfolded within this household.

The barn and stables complete the picture of an economy mainly based on animal husbandry. The size of these buildings, the materials used and the construction techniques employed highlight the importance of this activity to the family’s livelihood.

The craftsman’s workshop, where buciums (long wooden pastoral horns comparable to the Alpine horn) and flutes were made, was not a separate space, but rather adapted to the needs of the moment. Depending on the task at hand, work was carried out in stages — sometimes in the courtyard, sometimes in the barn, or on the house's veranda. In this way, the entire household became part of the instrument-making process.
