About

Săpânța is a legendary place, where people have often considered to belong to a special country. They wore traditional chosen clothes on feast days and respected traditional values.

The houses in Săpânța had two or three rooms and an open porch called "șatră". In the second room, called „ceie casa" (meaning “that house”, as opposed to ”this house”, which was the day to day living place), they were keeping their most precious things. At the mouth of the stove in ”this house”, there might be a lot of spindles brought by Marțolea, in case one of the local women worked when she shouldn't have. Marțolea is a legendary character who punishes women who’ve worked on feast days. In "ceie casa" the exhibition circuit brings to your attention both the industriousness and creativity of the people, and their legends, illusions and foibles.

The loom and the warp beam, as well as the woodworking tools, are on hand for visitors to experience sequences of village life.

The walls of "ceie casa" are painted with floral or geometric motifs, the mix of colours of the last half-century bringing a consistent touch of kitsch, without losing the deep meaning of the space.
