About

On festive days, the people of Găleșoaia would gather and celebrate in Poiana Nedeii, the large meadow in front of the village church. May 8th marked the village celebration day, drawing visitors from all the neighboring villages. The tradition was upheld until 1962, the year when collectivization was completed.
🍲 Every family in Găleșoaia would prepare large quantities of food in earthenware pots. They would cook poultry and piglets, make cornmeal dishes, cabbage with smoked bacon, chicken or turkey soup soured with pickled cabbage juice and filled with noodles, oven-baked rice with meat, and many other delicacies.
🪑 Anyone was welcome at the table—even strangers—and while people ate, lăutari (traditional musicians) played songs requested by the guests.
The atmosphere was one of great joy. This part of the celebration took place in the first half of the day, right after the church service, around noon. Later, hundreds of people would gather and the hora dances would begin. There were as many horas as there were groups of lăutari—always more than ten.
