To celebrate the Year of Brâncuși, the ASTRA Museum is showcasing the heritage of Gorj vernacular architecture present in the open-air museum.
The houses, farm buildings and traditional installations from Gorj County demonstrate the woodworkers' craftsmanship and the symbolic universe that had a decisive influence on Constantin Brâncuși's artistic development.
Together, the eleven constructions from Gorj County at the ASTRA Museum reveal elements that have been part of Brâncuși's childhood surroundings. The pillars of the house in Stolojan, the roof ending of the house from Musculesti-Petrești, and the plank bed with a straw mat in the house of Văleni offer important insights into his work.
