About

The winged windmill from Curcani dates back to the second half of the 19th century and belongs to the series of windmills with a pivot, built on a stone base. Unlike the other similar windmills in the museum, which have wings made of planks, this one has twelve wings made of cloth, shaped like triangular sails. This system is typical of Mediterranean windmills and has been found in Romania only in southern Dobrogea. The mill from Curcani is a particularly valuable exhibit, being the last surviving example in Romania.

The construction houses a single grinding unit. On the rear wall there is an open balcony with a horizontal winch for lifting the sacks.

In the photo gallery showcasing the mill, you can see contemporary photographs taken in the museum, as well as black-and-white photos taken in the early 1970s in Curcani. In the foreground, a small child playing, the miller from Curcani, the mill during the dismantling process, and the agricultural cooperative (CAP) from Curcani.
