About

Today, Dumbrava Sibiului beautifully keeps alive the spirit of the Danube Delta—with its sandy paths, reed-roofed houses, fishing boats, nets, huts, and the vibrant colors of the region. Near the windmills stands the Ukrainian miller’s house, brought from the village of Letea and opened for public in July 2024. The house was brought to life with the help of the people who once lived there and shared their stories.

The reconstruction was done with the support of local craftsmen and fishermen, who helped build the walls using yellow earth. The two houses in the yard—belonging to Maxim and Ivancenko families—have strong reed walls, layered with three coats of yellow earth, all brought from Letea. The blue-painted window frames and their hand-carved shapes reflect the local style. The vaulted wooden roof, with its decorative patterns, still includes original parts that have been carefully restored.
