About
The monument on display is one of the most original and attractive in the museum. It consists of a temporary dwelling for the oil maker, and the oiling workshop. The large circular trough, in which a stone wheel rolls to crush the oil seeds, is set in motion with the help of a horse. The seeds were then sifted through a sieve to separate the kernels from the hard shells. Gradually, a little water was added, and the resulting dough-like composition was transferred into a felt bag and placed in a press, housed in the same shed. The felt acted as the finest sieve and the oil came out directly filtered.
