The Mill from Nădăștia de Jos, Hunedoara County

     The monument includes an oil milling workshop associated with a temporary dwelling for the oil maker. The dwelling has everything necessary for sleeping, eating, praying and storing necessities. On the porch there is a small bench to sit on, a sign that the artisan also rests.

     The workshop is attached to the house, housing a massive press and a seed-crushing stone, a unique piece in the Romanian ethnographic landscape, dating from the late 19th and early 20th century. It was operated by feet, and the crushing was done by striking the eleven hammers into the corresponding pots. The workshop press is made of solid oak with a central wheel on a metal screw, dating from the early 20th century. Being a rather laborious occupation, more than one person always worked at the oil-press. The master oil miller had helpers, mainly his family members.
