About
The mill from Dăbâca was the first monument ever built in the museum, in 1964, and is one of the most archaic types of mills with lower inlet. The Cyrillic inscription on the frontispiece reminds us of the master builders, Pătru and Dumitru Barbului, who built it in 1848, together with Kostandin. The mill is built on an extremely solid stone foundation. Its body is made of oak beams, and the four-sided roof is supported by rafters covered with pine shingles.
Inside, the two distinct rooms reveal the life of the building: the mill house, with its milling machinery, and the miller's room, where those who came to grind their grain were gathered. The plaster and the whitewash on the walls provide additional thermal insulation and also hygiene. Access to the loft is made via a wooden ladder, which opens the way to the water wheel, the horizontal shaft and the two millstones. The bridge is also equipped with a swivel crane, a sign of the ingenuity of times gone by.
